Caring for What Matters This Winter
A January note from Tami
January tends to invite a slower pace — and that makes it a perfect season to care for the pieces in our closets that quietly work hard all year long.
Winter garments, especially knits and cozy layers, benefit from thoughtful care more than most of us realize. Even when items don’t look visibly dirty, they absorb oils, skin care products, and everyday residue that can wear on fibers over time. Cleaning them properly helps preserve shape, softness, and longevity — especially for what we often call our “nice knits.”
One simple care habit we often share this time of year is this:
Hang-drying just 2–3 items per load gives garments the breathing room they need to maintain their structure and reduces stress on fibers. It’s a small step that makes a noticeable difference over time.
January is also a wonderful moment to think beyond clothing alone. Blankets and comforters quietly collect dust, oils, and allergens throughout the winter months. Caring for them now helps keep your home feeling fresh and prepares them well for storage when the seasons change.
Care, for us, extends beyond garments. Through our Blessing Fund, we set aside a portion of our work each month to support organizations caring for people in meaningful, hands-on ways. In January, our Blessing Fund is supporting Sus Manos Gleaners, whose work helps rescue surplus produce and provide fresh food to families and communities across our region. We’re grateful to be able to come alongside efforts like theirs through the everyday work we do together.
At the heart of all of this care is our team — people who take pride in details and treat each garment as if it matters, because it does. One longtime customer recently shared this about Maria, and it captures our culture beautifully:
“Maria has that ‘it’ factor, and your store is very lucky you have her. She is such a great, loyal person. I really respect her as a customer.”
— Larry & Pam Crosby
We couldn’t agree more. Thoughtful care doesn’t happen by accident — it’s carried out by people who genuinely care.
Thank you for trusting us with your everyday pieces, your special garments, and the stories they hold. If you’re ever unsure where to begin or what might be helpful to bring in next, you’re always welcome to reach out — we’re happy to guide you.
Warmly,
Tami
